Accessibility
Made for everyone
Access.ive is for travellers with access requirements, including people with disabilities, and everyone travelling with them. So this website has to work for everyone too. We're working to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA, the international standard for accessible websites.
So far
What we've done
- Every page works with a keyboard, with a clear outline showing where you are.
- Buttons and links say what they do, for screen reader and voice control users.
- Text has strong contrast, and pages still work when you zoom in to 200%.
- Te reo Māori words are marked so screen readers pronounce them correctly.
- Photos have descriptions, and decorative images are skipped by screen readers.
- Maps are never the only way to find something: every region is also listed in text.
- Pages are built so they load quickly, even on slower rural connections.
In progress
What we're still working on
- Writing a detailed description for every listing photo.
- We're planning testing with people with disabilities, including screen reader, voice control and switch users. Their feedback will shape what we change next.
- Checking every page regularly with screen readers on Windows and iPhone.

The experiences
About the experiences we list
This page is about the website. For the access details of each experience, see its listing. Each listing gives clear details of what's involved, and many link to the operator's own Access Guide. You can read more about the endorsements on our About page.
