Fox Glacier Guiding

Fox Glacier Township, Glacier Country · approx. 3.5 hours drive from Queenstown or 30 minutes from Franz Josef

Adapting Aotearoa Endorsed
MakingTrax Endorsed

Fox Glacier Guiding has been operating on the West Coast since 1974, making them New Zealand's longest-running glacier guiding company. Their signature Flying Fox Heli-Hike combines two helicopter flights with up to three hours on the ice, exploring crevasses and ice formations with expert guides. The Extreme Fox All Day option extends this to seven hours on the glacier. For those wanting a different pace, guided valley walks and e-bike and hike options are also available. All technical gear is provided and no prior experience is necessary.

Inclusive statement

The Fox Glacier Guiding team works with guests of all abilities and every trip can be tailored to the group's needs and desires — their access to a wider range of guiding terrain means they can always find the best route to suit. Adapted glacier experiences for guests with reduced mobility are available through MakingTrax, who coordinate these specialist trips directly.

Good to know

All glacier access is via helicopter — there is no walk-on access to Fox Glacier. A minimum age of 9 years applies for heli-hike trips. Adapted trips for guests with reduced mobility use a glacier buggy and are private, minimum 2 persons (including 1 person with reduced mobility) — these are organised entirely through MakingTrax. All trips are subject to weather and conditions.
